Another authentic local experience situated in the island of Mannar, in ‘the other part of Sri Lanka’! Set amidst a completely contrasting environment to Abode Knuckles, Abode Hibernation is a place for crystal white sands, turquoise blue water and emerald Palmyra trees.

Accommodatio is is a local house with situated in the sleepy fishing hamlet of Pesali. The facilities are basic but simple creature comforts are well taken care of. Pampered with local charms and food, this is the place to discover the hidden wonders of Mannar.

The island of Mannar, with it’s amazing beauty, culture and trade is one of the highlights of Abode Hibernation. The shallow waters around Adam’s bridge are a place to wallow at dusk and savour. The island brews its own potent brew from palm juice, one of the oldest occupations known.

The market place is a hive of activity, with the island’s prolific lobster and crab trade dominating the lively proceedings from dawn till dusk.

The fisheries have now taken over from pearl industry but still the view along the deserted beaches of Marachikudi is like stepping back in time.

Hibernation takes you to the power bastions of gods of all faiths to see the gigantic structures that various cultures constructed. The influence of the conquerors and the invaders are omnipresent in these monuments. And finally, for the twitchers, the mud flats and giant tank (oldest and the largest in the country) are a paradise for birds and many endemics and migrants can be spotted.
